What makes Northstar Ju jitsu unique?

Northstar Jujitsu now has a home in Crows Nest Sydney Australia. This purpose built dojo is huge.

It is an icon for all martial arts throughout Australia and the southern hemisphere. Darren Higgs, the founder of Quantum Martial Arts and his wife Bet, run this huge dojo smoothly and efficiently. He has a 7th degree Northstar Ju jitsu Black Belt, so I know that NSJJ is taught correctly, my art is in good hands.

Darren’s dojo is unique in that he teaches 3 forms of Ju Jitsu. NSJJ, BJJ and MMA. NSJJ is now taught in the 2 full time dojos; Balmain and Crows nest , as well as Chatswood, Marsfield and Perth WA. Add in my private dojo in Five Dock, and there is a very solid base for learning and training with Quantum, Arrow and Weststar Martial arts.

I have studied many systems of martial arts for many years. Some were good, others were great. Either way, I always learned something. The one thing that was lacking was the ability of the style to quickly adapt itself to the  changing landscape of self defence and  sparring. Many just put their heads in the sand and ignored the problem. The key here is to have a sound knowledge of standing, kicking and punching basics, possibly learning  a strong style like thai boxing, or judo, karate or taekwondo. With a basic style that you can all ways fall back to, that you can rely on that training to protect your self, you can then address your weak spots.

For example I had a 1^st dan black belt in taekwondo. I was getting hammered by the judo players and taekwondo fighters, so I went and studied thai boxing and Judo, and that really opened my odds on winning the fight. I included jujutsu, Japanese and Brazilian. I was hungry for knowledge and was finding that I could now hold my own no matter what style it was.

If I went to a judo class anywhere in the world, I could hold my own, that included many other styles. I was so hungry to be the best all round martial art I could. Then I set off to live in Japan. I had to reset the bar. I was humbled many times in Japan. SAW and Kudos are 2 very strong systems, and they get my philosophy of training. That is to be able to hold your own no matter what style you are training with but, when the student came to my dojo, they wear easily beaten because my system, knows where its weakness lies and has worked hard to fix them and beat most challengers.

So what you are seeing now is a well thought out martial art that has sound basics. It is a traditional martial art that retains the samurai spirit.  I have cut out so much of the unneeded stuff that has remained in martial arts because it is the tradition. If you cannot use it now in a fight, we don’t need it.  I have crafted a no-nonsense approach to my online academy. You are not learning any floss. I have taken all of the signature moves from Daito Ryu Aiki Ju jutsu and Tenjin Shinyo Ryu Ju Jutsu and steadily built a robust but doable for anyone system of martial arts. So I encourage you to follow the instructions on how to use this academy and get the most out of it.

Try and complete every lesson, quiz and assignment, before you move to the next belt. I know there can be a tendency to want to learn this system as quickly as possible but slow down and take your time.
