What is the status of martial arts and ai?
What are the timeless teachings that will never be lost as relics of another era? Will ai signal the end of martial arts as we know it? So many people are subcontracting themselves out from actively being involved with the production of their business and life. I refuse to let ai take over my life. How can we determine what is real and what is not? I know of people that are writing blogs, books, and anything else you can think of that can easily be outsourced to ai. Don’t get me wrong, I think it has its place, but we need to not make it the head of our business and personal life. People can now research martial arts using ai. They don’t need to visit a school to check them out. It is all done for them. Honing right down on exactly what the school is and what it stands for without leaving their home.
Let’s face it, martial arts is not in good shape. So many of the post second world war masters are in their 80’s. In 5-10 years’, time all of these master’s will be gone. Many schools that had their teacher connected with a real source of good martial arts are finding themselves without a teacher. There is no progression, and these schools just continue to regurgitate the same stuff over and over again.
Fortunately, the timeless aspects that will survive are the schools that have taken the inner path. They realise that life and martial arts is constantly in a state of flux, so change is natural. When the martial arts training takes on a mindful approach and the growth of other aspects like wisdom and service, oneness, and self-realisation, they have a firm reason to keep on training.
The timeless aspects of the martial arts can easily be aligned with the outer physical repetition of moves. Observing the body in motion not becoming, attached to how this should be working. your training takes on a much deeper level. The cultivation of wisdom and hopefully self-realisation, this will supersede the desire to fight. You will be left with something that words cannot explain. It is good and will carry the essence of you and this ancient concept of training for many years.
This will never die out. For as long as humanity has been asking, “who am I,” there will be a place for the martial arts, providing there is a clear line of inner work available to be taught by the head instructor.
Unfortunately, this is not the case. Most martial arts schools do no inner work, where the real challenge is done. ‘You against you.’ Slowly but surely all the strengths of a dojo that worked to bring you a wonderful martial arts experience slowly lose their shine. The tradition is just discarded. The uniforms are covered in badges, there is talking and fooling around, but the modern MMA martial arts school do not seem to mind. It is no longer martial arts. -Andy-
