Warrior Training.

Andy Dickinson

The first step at Northstar is to learn about taking control of the immediate space around you. This is essential basics in warrior training. Lets say you are the centre of a circle that extends one metre out. You become the master of your own zone controlling and monitoring who you allow in. Most importantly you become aware that you can control that space by just accepting that it is there. From this awareness you start to take responsibility for yourself. You control the space, no one else. Becoming aware of this space is the first step in martial arts.

Learning to act accordingly when someone else enters your space is the next level of awareness and much more difficult awareness. Acting accordingly simply means acting as the situation requires. This takes awareness to a new and different level. This awareness is the inner awareness and I like to call it “martial arts of the mind.”

By gently observing the movements of the mind we can slowly see patterns emerging that have become so intrenched in our being we always react a certain way every time that situation presents itself. This awareness is simply slowing down our reaction time, being aware of emotions as they arise and taking a breath, this leads to less judgement, more patience and more self control. Inner awareness enables you to control your outer awareness with so much more ease. This practice is more difficult and like learning to kick and punch, takes time to master. Meditation is good for this warrior training.

By learning to control and understand your own sense of awareness you can become proactive in being aware of someone elses space. This is the real beauty of awareness and personal growth. Being mindful of your own growth, leading to an awareness and appreciation of someone elses space. You will become instantly aware the moment you are infringing on some one else. This is courtesy and etiquette.
