Description

Andy Dickinson is a fighter, but not against people. When faced with life’s difficulties, he does not give up. He has received recognition on an international stage as a Martial Arts expert – now he faces his biggest challenge to date.

Andy had a difficult childhood, but the instant he walked into his first martial arts lesson at age 17 he knew he was home. He was the victim of bullying and he credits the martial arts with saving and changing his life.

Stand Tall: A Journey from Boy to Man to Master features many of Andy’s unique and inspiring tales of traveling the world and finding his own place within it.  Andy has taught many men, women and children martial arts and believes it is the only sport that reinforces in people the self-discipline to keep going and to find the courage to stand tall and face what you fear the most. In the book he recounts tales and encounters which he handles in his unique way – from a turn as a flight steward, to a run-in with a hot headed bikie which led to an unexpected friendship, to the blurry lines of a night club doorman. He also writes about his time living in Japan and learning from the Masters where he earned his 9th Dan Black Belt.

When Andy Dickinson was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease he used his rich life experience and passion for Martial Arts to turn his diagnosis into something to learn and grow from. Stand Tall: A Journey from Boy to Man to Master shows that no matter what we are faced with in life, living your truth will guide you to a deeper understanding of who you are.

ANDY DICKINSON has taught thousands of men women and children martial arts. He finds his greatest inspiration teaching all levels of students at his beautiful dojo in the heart of Sydney’s inner west. His method of teaching is fun and he inspires the students to do their best by motivating at all times in a positive way. Andy was the Australian Director and one of the founding members of the International Sports Ju Jitsu Association and on 2009 was elected as President of the International Budo-Ju Jitsu Federation based in Tokyo Japan. At the same time awarded 9th Dan black belt in the sport of Budo-Ju Jitsu by Chairman Hidetaka Aso Sensei.
