Martial Arts for men

Martial arts for men

Which is the best martial arts for men?

From a young age, fighting was the last thing on my mind. I would shrink away from any conflict so was a prime target for bullies. It wasn’t until I turned 18 and had been working in a trade for a couple of years that all of a sudden I was not such an easy target. Because of those years of being bullied my life’s work became about empowering others through the education of martial arts. For more than 35 years I have punched, kicked, thrown and wrestled my way to try and find the perfect fit for Martial Arts for men.

Friendships are forged

Through the years I have seen with great delight the joy that comes with learning martial arts for both men and women.  Learning martial arts turns on a primal yearning that we can tap into so as to express violence in a safe and controlled environment. Then by using fighting as a vehicle of personal growth instead of an aggressive act of violence great bonding and friendships are forged amongst participants. Though this does seem somewhat of a contradiction as becoming great mates with someone you often take on in unarmed combat seems impossible. It’s hard to explain but this is what happens.

All have their pros and cons.

There is no one martial arts for men that suits everyone. There is not one martial art that is superior to another. All have their pros and cons. It all comes down to the temperament of the individual and the personality of the instructor. If you are looking for competition then you can’t go past the rigors of judo and taekwondo, both Olympic sports. If you are looking for a martial art that is more focused on self-defense but also has a large sport component then you can’t go by karate and Brazilian Jiu jitsu. Then there are the martial arts that are self defense focused but still have a sparring component such as Northstar Ju Jitsu. All martial arts have something to offer, try few and see which one is a good fit for you.
