Important questions answered.

I get asked a lot if I teach Tenjin Shinyo Ryu or Daito Ryu Aiki Ju Jutsu as stand alone programs. The answer is no I don’t. For many years there was a regular class at North Sydney of TJSYR at the PCYC. I trained with them for a number of years. As the PCYC is closing their doors in a couple of months, I am not sure what they are going to-do. There is no doubt that TJSYR has influenced my development of Northstar Ju Jutsu (NSJJ), even from white belt there are aspects of this great martial art sprinkled through out the white belt to black belt Northstar Ju Jitsu syllabus. DRAJJ is also a slow dying art. Now, the powerful force behind it, Kondo Sensei has retired from teaching, so the system is now controlled by his brother who has his own ideas on how it should be taught.

There are also many TJSYR in the dan grades from 1^st dan to 8^th dan. From what I can make out, the headmaster sold all of the technique scrolls to a British Ju Jutsu Organisation. So that is the end of that. I am lucky that I have material that I can refer to so I do not forget the intricacies of this great and important martial art.

I often get asked if I have an affiliation with a Ju Jitsu associations. I used to call the Shinbukan, the main dojo of Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu my home. You see the thing is, after training  with the Japanese for many years, I found I was not progressing the way that I wanted. I still have a great friendship with ASoh Sensei from SAW. We have been friends for many years. I really value that friendship now. I do not believe that I could align myself with a master that would insist I teach his way. So Northstar Ju Jitsu has the heavy hitting credentials.

Training aids are a great advantage when you do not have a regular partner to train with. A good punching bag is a start, just make sure it is not too hard, or heavy. He training dummies that you can bye are great for ground control and submission. Ideally you could train some one from your family to assist you, don’t worry if you can’t, that is not a deal breaker.

My 2^nd book, “Ancient traditions Modern Warrior,” is a detailed look at the techniques of Northstar and from where and how they were developed.  In my white belt syllabus, the first number of moves are directly from the TJSYR syllabus, and are very familiar to judo
